~ a complete psycho-somatic approach to fascia as a dynamic communication system ~
New to the Netherlands, Somatic Psychoeducation, is a method of tuning the body and perception that evolved from Dr. Danis Bois' osteopathy and physiotherapy practices in France. It is an approach that enhances and develops our perception. It uses sensory awareness of our matter to transform our relationships to ourselves and also negative relationships we might experience during pain, stress or physical tension.
Generally we use 4 main methods to work on awareness:
1) Fasciatherapy MDB, a non-manipulative manual therapy
2) Sensorial Re‐education, a sensorial movement practice
3) Sensorial Introspection
4) The verbal dialogue component that accompanies all of the above.
In these methods, and especially in the manual therapy, we follow a slow, autonomous 'internal movement' - a vital life force that differs from other movements /impulses (i.e., primary respiratory mechanism/cranial rhythmic impulse). it penetrates and animates all tissue matter and every system in the body. This difference is marked by the way the 'internal movement' is drawn to dense and resistant matter.
when the free flow of this movement transforms the dense matter to a natural balance, self regulation and health is restored.
The aim is not only to rhythmically regulate this 'internal movement', but to guide the client through the process of perceiving this movement within themselves.
conscious sensing of this movement is a profound perception and can be an awakening experience.
through this experience I aim to facilitate a process of individuals moving into more intimate relationships with themselves and others.
Sensorial Re-education
Sensorial movement is a practice that complements manual therapy sessions.
The aim of this is to help people become autonomous in their relationship to the inner movement that can be perceived under the hands during manual therapy.
Sensorial movement introduces students to gentle movement sequences that explore how the body moves through space. The aim is to bring awareness to how perception of the inner movement can organize optimal biomechanical activity. This developed capacity of the perception enables us to consciously experience to glide through the movements and deepen our sense of presence.
These sequences were designed to illuminate our perception of movement patterns that generate tension or pain. Students are closely guided through the sequence and gradually experience more nuances that make up everyday gestures. through this work we arrive at states of more and more being movement instead of just doing movement.
Sensorial Introspection
Sensorial introspection could also be described as a kind of meditation. however we do not work with a special attention to the breath, visualizations , mantras or any other preoccupation of the mind. it is simply an attempt to reach availability and quality of attention, a little break from our habitual flow of life to step into an enriched relationship with our interiority.
when our thoughts settle and our tensions relax, the body opens to a form of listening inward. the subtile movement that emerges in the interiority starts to reorganize itself. the sensorial introspection is a mode of coming into contact with oneself and the sensation of vitality which animates us.
in the simultaneous experience of a stable and immobile body and a slow and perpetuating constant movement within, we enrich our perception and presence and establish a state of peace in our identity.
The verbal dialogue component
The verbal dialogue component is an integral part of the treatment. first of all it is a mode of communication to understand the motivation and reasons what a client is taking the treatment. this often also unfolds the manner with which the client sees him/herself, life and the world. it allows a relationship to evolve which can reveal how the client perceives him/herself in the world, how the pathology affects his/her life and also how the person experiences sweetness and joy of existence. the client is inspired to sense into his/her being and the informations that emerge can be tools of navigation for the practitioner.
Finally the words that are chosen create a true link between what is happening inside of the body and what is perceived and rendered conscious by the client.
